At the age of 5 I started taken pictures with a James Bond like spy camera the Minox 35, not larger than a pack cigarettes. After studying german literature, with a main focus on theater, film and new media, I worked as a camera assistant for the North German Television, learning many essentials about lights, pespective etc. Later on I worked as a still photographer for many independent filmmakers, film students and the Film Office Hamburg. In the early nineties the web & desktop publishing revolution had just started with harddrives of just 100MB and Photoshop still without layers I had the chance to undertake an apprenticeship as a Junior Art Director in a desktop publishing company learning Freehand 3.11, Quark Xpress and Photoshop and skills in Design and Typography. An employment as graphic designer at the advertising agency Wilkens Ayer lasted three years. From the mid nineties I worked primarily as a freelance Photographer, Assistant to Photographers or Art Director for Photo Shootings depending on the projects I was hired. My passion for travelling brought me to Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica, but also to many countries in Europe, Asia and to Australia. Always my old mechanic, Nikon FM2 handy and waiting for these rare occasions worth to take a picture. Today I still prefer mechanic cameras with manual control, just recently I bought an old Hasselblad 6x6 camera. I can´t say that I have specialised in a certain field of Photography, like portait or architecture. To my mind there are always interesting findings and new ways to explore a topic. I hope you like some of the images displayed and might revisit this page as I will update regularly. Thanks for your attention and happy surfing CDP UNIT |
